The Department of Juvenile Welfare came into existence from 10.4.1990 to undertake steps for development and rehabilitation of “Children in need of Care and Protection” (Orphans, Destitute, Neglected, Street Children, Victims etc.) and “Juveniles in conflict with law” (children who are alleged to have committed offence) upto the age of 18 years under Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act 2000 r/w Amendment Act, 2006. Probation & Correctional Services was transferred in 1995 and Welfare of Street Children was added in 1997 to this department

OBJECTIVE:-

The Homes shall provide proper care, protection and treatment by catering to the developmental needs by adopting a child friendly approach in the best interest of the children for their ultimate rehabilitation. The children shall be provided facilities for specialized education in community besides a diversified program of vocational training with special reference to the employment / placement opportunities in the mainstream society for their rehabilitation

INSTITUTIONAL SERVICES:
1. CHILDREN HOME FOR BOYS (6)

are located at Hyderabad, Warangal, Tirupathi, Kadapa, Visakapatnam, and Eluru for taking care of the Children in need of care & protection as per orders of the Child Welfare Committees.

2.OBSERVATION HOMES (9)

are located at Hyderabad, Warnagal, Nizamabad, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Visakapatnam, Kurnool, Tirupathi and Ananthapur for juveniles in conflict with law during pendency of cases against them before Juvenile Justice Boards.

3.SPECIAL HOMES FOR BOYS (3)

are located at Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, & Tirupathi for juveniles in conflict with Law after completion of cases against them by the Juvenile Justice Boards.

4.SPECIAL-CUM-CHILDREN HOME& OBSERVATION HOME FOR GIRLS (3)

are located at Hyderabad, Visakapatnam, & Tirupathi for Girl Juveniles during pendency of cases against them before Juvenile Justice Boards and also for taking care of the Girl Children in need of Care & Protection as per orders of the Child Welfare Committees

5.AFTER CARE HOME (1)

is functioning at Hyderabad for taking care & giving guidance for the rehabilitation of juveniles/children after they leave Special / Children home for enabling them to lead a honest industrious and useful life

PROBATION SERVICES:

The District Probation Officers Gr-I (1st level Gazetted) and the Dist Probation Officers, Gr-II (Non Gazetted), with quasi-judicial functions, implement the Probation of offenders Act, 1958. Their work is supervised by 8 Regional Inspectors of Probation at Hyderabad (District & Rural), Warangal, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Anantapur & Tirupathi. The Probation work is reviewed & monitored by Chief Probation Superintendent with the assistance of Asst. Chief Probation Superintendent
