The Telangana Women’s Cooperative Development Corporation was established in the year 1975 with the aim of empowerment of rural women, and registered as a Co-Op. Society under Telangana. Co-Op. Societies Act 1964. It is a Govt. of Telangana undertaking and functions as a part of the Department of Women Development and Child Welfare. During the year 1987, the role of the corporation was broadened with the establishment of 23 Durgabai Mahila Sisu Vikasa Kendrams (Popularly known as Mahila Pranganams) one in each district of Telangana, for carrying out vocational trainings in various courses and trades and facilitating in employment and empowerment of women

Major Activities
  • Structured Training of unemployed women in vocational courses and trades through district Durgabai Mahila Sisu Vikasa Kendrams (DMSVKs)
  • Training of field functionaries of Nutrition & Health sectors, i.e. Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, ANM’s etc
  • Facilitating Marketing to Women entrepreneurs through exhibitions, trade fairs, and buyer seller meets, design and display centers, etc
  • Management of Working Women’s Hostels
  • Running bridge schools for school drop outs
  • Serve as a Nodal Agency for processing the proposals of NGOs for setting up of Women Empowerment Programmes with the financial assistance of GOI
  • Providing shelter and short stay for destitute and deserted women
Government Assistance

Government is providing the Assistance to the Corporation towards meeting the establishment and contingent charges for the Head Office and (23) Durgabai Mahila Sisu Vikasa Kendrams

Funding for Vocational Programmes

The Corporation mobilizes funds from different sources viz, Govt. of India, State Govt. agencies such as Department of Women Development and Child Welfare, Health & Family Welfare, DRDA, Rajiv Education and Employment Mission in Telangana, SC, ST & BC, Corporations, ITDA etc., for conducting Vocational Training

Vocational Programmes

Some of the programmes taken up at DMSVKs are

  • Trades – Block printing and Dyeing Hosiery, Hand and Machine Embroidery, Soft Toys, Sari Printing, Leather Articles, electronic and electrical appliances assembling etc
  • Courses – Computers, Accounting, DTP, Lab Technicians/Lab Attendants, Community Health Workers, Multi Purpose Health Workers (ANM), Personal Secretary, Beautician, Designing & Manufacturing of Garments
  • Training of ICDS Functionaries- Since 1991, Job Course/ Refresher Courses for Anganwadi Workers and Orientation Course for Anganwadi Helpers are being organized at Anganwadi Workers Training Centres located in DMSVKs
