The Telangana State Social Welfare Board is created vide resolution No.26/6/53/D-2, dated: 12-04-1953 by Parliament of India as a subsidiary organization of Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi
The APSSW Board is a pioneering agency for providing services to women and children. The Board implements programmes for welfare of women and children and also undertakes study to understand the needs of the target groups. The programmes are executed through Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Rural, Urban and Tribal and some of these programmes are as follows:
- Creche programme for children in the age group of 0-6 years. Currently the State Board has established above 2000 creches with about 50,000 children
- Condensed Course is designed to provide education and skill development for girls who are school dropouts
- Family Counselling Centre is one of the unique programmes of the Board which aims to redress family disputes among couples, domestic violence, marital discords etc. There are 42 counselling centers in the state
- Awareness Generation Programme aims to create awareness for the purpose of holistic development and to increase the active participation of women in decision making and also on issues of atrocities on Women and Children
- Short Stay Home aims to provide shelter and counseling to the needy girls/ women who are facing social, emotional, economic problems.
These programmes are supervised by the Field Officers deputed by Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB) who provide continuous guidance for the improvement and implementation of programmes
